Election night 2012 was a happy occasion for the bisexual community in the United States as all five openly bisexual candidates on the national and state ballots swept to victory.

( Including the first openly bisexual member of the US Congress Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ); State Senator Angie Buhl (D-SD); Secretary of State Kate Brown (D-OR); State Representative Micah Kellner (D-NY); and State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-WI). )

Former Connecticut Democratic State Rep. Evelyn Mantilla came out as the nation’s first bisexual state official in 1997. Since then the number of bisexual state-level officials who have come out during their term has slowly grown to six.
